Play with me, Ryan Hunter!

I have to say that just with the two titles of the books from the Grover Beach series you actually can express it all.

"The guy sure felt a little possessive there, and he made no effort to hide that from me or anyone else. I couldn't stop myself from smiling."

Ryan Hunter's parties are legend. And tonight she's going to be there.

Liza Matthews anticipates the return of her best friend and only love since kindergarten from soccer camp. But when Tony finally shows up, his mind is more focused on another girl. And worse, she's a soccer player. Fighting for the attention Liza craves, she's just a hairbreadth away from making a very stupid decision. But when extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures, she's prepared to play ball to get her man.

The tryouts are hell, the first match ends bloody, and the morning after the selection party she wakes up in the worst place possible—in the arms of the captain of the soccer team. The hottest guy in school. Ryan Hunter.

So much for the synopsis. But what can I actually say about the book? It's funny and clever and beautiful. One of my favorite scenes is after their first workout and Liza refuses to move.

"But don't mind me. Just go on. I'm sure in a few hours someone will come and scrape me off the pavement...dig me out of the sand...whatever."

The two start out as friends and we all know how it is when you have set your sight on something and you don't see the rest of the world anymore. In this case not seeing Ryan is a bad thing since he's adorable and just the right kind of cocky and sweet. As for the guy that Liza actually thought she loves: Tony (come on, with that name he could never score with me anyways) sucks. He's a selfish prick, who luckily in the end sees the light and does the right thing. Other than that? Thank God for Ryan Hunter. This book? I am sooo glad I bought it.

Hell, I thought book one was good and I gave it a full five-star-rating, but then I read Ryan Hunter and suddenly I wished there was something like six stars!

Ryan Hunter is actually Play with me just from Ryan's perspective and maaaaaan, you gotta love that guy.

"This was the only time that I'd ever let go of the tears that had choked me the whole night, because the evidence of them would be washed away in the shower."

Seriously, who can not love him after that? Especially when he mentions time and again that almost everyone knows just how strongly he's feeling for Liza. I love that there is no need to hide his feelings behind the typical 'I'm a guy I can't have feelings'.
Ryan Hunter is just... WOW. And best of all: He has that bad-boy-vibe that draws the girls (*cough* me *cough*) in without being a bad boy at all. A tiny little playboy maybe, but nothing more. Just amazing. I love how he handles shy Susan, or bookworm, how he calls her and I love that he seems to come along with just everyone. As far as book-boyfriends go, he goes up fast and high on my list. And I was very glad to realize that book two was longer than book one because that meant more of Liza and Ryan. And more of those two is just perfect.

"I think it's time that you know I'm in love with you, Liza. That you've been my very own sunshine for a very long time. And that I don't intend to let you ever get out of my arms again."

And with those two books I leave you for now!

Yours truly, Julie
