Piece of Work - Staci Hart

Staci Hart - a woman I love and adore, and whose writing I'll probably always devour.  - quote by... me, Sam Destiny I got Piece of Work as an ARC (I'll admit I was practically begging Staci to give me one anyway...) and read it because... well, she's epic and I knew she was a safe bet when it came to my reading funk.  Anyway, why don't we start out with the blurb? Blurb: Marble isn’t the only thing that’s hard at this museum. His body is as chiseled as Adonis. His lips are as sculpted as David. And his ego is the size of the Guggenheim. You know the type—wolfish smile and the gravity of a black hole. The kind of man who sucks all the air from the room the second he enters it. My cocky boss thinks this internship was wasted on me, and he doesn’t hesitate to let me know. But he’s wrong, and I’m going to prove it to him. If I can stay away from his devil lips, that is. Lips that cut me down and kiss me in the same breath, leaving me certain he’s on ...

Heart of Dread: Frozen - a new series by Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston

Synopsis: " Welcome to New Vegas, a city once covered in bling, now blanketed in ice. Like much of the destroyed planet, the place knows only one temperature - freezing. But some things never change. The diamond in the ice desert is still a 24-hour hedonistic playground and nothing keeps the crowds away from the casino floors, never mind the rumors about sinister sorcery in its shadows. At the heart of this city is Natasha Kestal, a young blackjack dealer looking for a way out. Like many, she's heard of a mythical land simply called "the Blue." They say it's a paradise, where the sun still shines and the waters are turquoise. More importantly, it's a place where Nat won't be persecuted, even if her darkest secret comes to light. But passage to the Blue is treacherous, if not impossible, and her only shot is to bet on a ragtag crew of mercenaries led by a cocky runner named Ryan Wesson there. Danger and deceit await on every corner, even as Nat...

Unteachable - Leah Reader

Synopsis: "I met him at a carnival, of all corny places. The summer I turned eighteen, in that chaos of neon lights and cheap thrills, I met a man so sweet, so beautiful, he seemed to come from another world. We had one night: intense, scary, real. Then I ran, like I always do. Because I didn’t want to be abandoned again. But I couldn’t run far enough. I knew him as Evan that night. When I walked into his classroom, he became Mr. Wilke. My teacher. I don’t know if what we’re doing is wrong. The rules say one thing; my heart says screw the rules. I can’t let him lose his job. And I can’t lose him. In the movies, this would have a happy ending. I grow up. I love, I lose, I learn. And I move on. But this is life, and there’s no script. You make it up as you go along. And you don’t pray for a happy ending. You pray for it to never end." "And that made my heart ache, too-the thought of how much happiness lay scattered across the unive...

M. Leighton has been on my to read list with lots of book, so I was happy to see that she came up in my book roulette.  The Blood Like Poison series by M. Leighton Ridley Heller is your regular high school girl that dreams about going away to Stanford after graduation. Her life, a mixture between neglecting parents (they are still mourning the death of Ridley's older sister Izzy three years ago) and friends that care more about social status than actual friendships, also seems sadly normal. That is until Bo enters the picture. There is something that draws Ridley to him, some pull that she's unable to resist. While trying to figure out her feelings for the new guy, people start disappearing a small town is thrust into the unknown. Who is kidnapping and killing all those people? And what does Bo have to do with it! The secrets that are revealed to her will leave Ridley question everything she has known about her life and her past. But will she get past everything and ...
