THE SHADOWS (Black Dagger Brotherhood #13 by J.R. Ward) - Sarah's Review
BEWARE: SPOILERS ABOUND!
Ok so I definitely needed some time to process what just happened. This book though was so gripping and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I loved the love story but the side stories keep getting stronger and stronger and I just didn't want it to be over!
Trez... him and Selena were never my favorite couple but man did I feel for the guy. I hated what had to happen but at the same time, I just couldn't see a way out of Selena's disease or a way she might be saved. And though we didn't see a lot of I'am and his female, it felt really right for Trez to come back for him and be there for him the way I'am always was. So did I cry and get angry? Definitely. But at the end of the day, I wouldn't have wanted Trez to go into the fade and leave I'am because THAT was what would have been worse, which makes the events more acceptable for me.
I also want to add that I LOVED seeing more of S'ex and I can't wait for his book! I loved how he took care of things with the queen. I wondered through the whole book how the shibe mess would be fixed and as usual, JR magically makes it all come together in a way that leaves you thinking "how did I not see that solution??" Lol. I might not love all her choices, but that woman knows what she's doing and writes what she sees, period. If you don't like that, then this series isn't for you.
It was also great to see more of Paradise in preparation for her book BLOOD KISS in Dec. and you know you are a great writer when ONE scene of her meeting her mate makes you wish for that book SO BAD!!!
Loved the Xcor and Layla stuff as always and I love how he is changing.. so I hated where it left off! She has to find her way back to him somehow and now that she isn't in denial about just liking him, I hope she won't just let him go. And the twins! I loved that and I have more faith that both will survive after reading JR's comments from her book signing so I'm definitely not as worried about that!
All in all, have tissues ready but it was quite a ride, as you can always expect from a BDB book. It was just about perfect, but I had to drop a star because I can't help but feel bitter for the way things ended with Trez. He's in a better place emotionally than say, Tohr was, but I just was gutted for him. Again, I get it for I'am's sake.. but it was just bittersweet for sure.
I loved seeing more of all the brothers and the best thing now is that up next is Rhage: THE BEAST!!!
MY RATING: 4 book boyfriends
